- Dr. Sakura is Professor and Director of Surgical Center of Shimane University Hospital and Department of Anesthesiology at Shimane University School of Medicine in Izumo City, Japan. He graduated from Shimane Medical University, Japan, where he received his basic clinical anesthesia and research training. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Anesthesia, University of California, San Francisco to develop a functional and histological animal model of local anesthetic neurotoxicity. Dr. Sakura’s research has involved balanced anesthesia, epidural anesthesia and respiratory function, spinal anesthesia, ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks, and neurotoxicity of local anesthetic, about which he has many publications in international journals. He has been invited to present lectures and participate as a faculty member and/or instructor for peripheral nerve workshops at many scientific meetings. He is an associate editor for Journal of Anesthesia and has been a guest reviewer for leading international anesthesia journals including Anesthesiology, Anesthesia & Analgesia, British Journal of Anaesthesia and Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine.
