Dr. Winters is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and is the Division Director for Surgical Critical Care and Co-Director of the Surgical ICUs and Burn ICU at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. He is both a practicing intensivist and anesthesiologist. His research focuses on healthcare quality and safety. He has a special interest in the application of technological solutions to patient safety and quality problems, including the problems of unrecognized deterioration and cardiorespiratory arrest in general ward inpatients, gaps in quality of care and technological distractions such as alarm and alert fatigue.
